Artwork Description: I am all of them is a photographic series that explores the intersections of migration, memory, and identity. Through repeated self-portraits staged within urban environments, the work reflects on the ways the body becomes a vessel for ancestral history and lived experience. Each image captures a multiplicity of self, revealing the echoes of who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.
The series contemplates what it means to belong in spaces that have not always felt open or reflective of diverse identities. Drawing inspiration from artist Michael Cook, Bizimana reimagines the photograph as both a site of reclamation and reconfiguration, where visibility and presence become acts of resistance.
I am all of them is a meditation on movement, memory, and transformation, offering a visual dialogue between the past and present that celebrates resilience, connection, and the enduring search for belonging.
My work explores the layered experience of migration, memory, and identity. I am interested in how the body carries both personal and ancestral memory, and how those histories shape our sense of belonging. In my series I am all of them, I use repeated figures and urban structures to reflect on the multiplicity of self and the ways identity is continuously reshaped by place and experience.
Inspired by the photographic practice of Michael Cook, I also use staged imagery to reclaim narratives and reimagine the past through a lens of empowerment and presence. My work invites reflection on what it means to inhabit space, to live between worlds, and to find belonging in unfamiliar places. Ultimately, it is about creating spaces where our stories are visible, valued, and celebrated.
