Artwork Description: A puffin just popped out of its burrow to have a peak of what is happening on the rocky sea stack Castle o’Burrian, on Westray, one of Orkney's northern isles.
I am a painter and illustrator. Born and bred in rural Western Australia, I grew up with a love of wide open spaces, freedom to roam and an appreciation for both domestic and wild creatures. I moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, some years ago where I undertook full time art studies at Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art. Whilst in Scotland, I travelled with another painter to the Orkney Isles, with the aim of exploring these northerly landscapes and the wild creatures that inhabit them. One of these isles, Westray, has a rocky sea stack called Castle o’Burrian where puffins were nesting at the time of our travels there. Enchanted by the movement of the puffins, their antics and interaction with each other and their environment, I was inspired to paint a small series of watercolours displaying a variety of their actions and write a travel journal on my website about these beautiful creatures. I am currently living in rural Victoria and enjoy seeing the wild creatures here.
